“Who Wants Some?”

Turning pro, remaining undefeated and winning a regional title, less than twelve months after an illustrious amateur boxing career, would be considered a success for most.  But for the "Latin Legend" Luis Yanez, 2008 United States Olympian and reigning Texas super flyweight champion, it seems like he's unsatisfied with his first year minus the headgear.

In 3 bouts, Yanez debuted as the headliner at American Airlines Center, was the marquee fighter at Frisco's Dr. Pepper Arena (during its' first week of existence, no less) and picked up his first pro belt, at least one full weight class above where he probably should be fighting.  Nonetheless, the ambitious and energetic Yanez wanted more, looking to fight at least twice that amount of times as a rookie.  Now that promotional and agent related road-blocks are cleared, the 2007 Pan Am Games gold medalist already has his sights set on more bouts and bigger and better titles.  "I wanted to fight alot more in 2009 but come 2010, I'm asking 'Who wants some?'", Yanez said.  "From 108 to 115, I'm willing to fight anybody, especially champions.  And if you got a belt at 118, watch out, cause you can get some too!"

You can't be shy carrying the nickname "Latin Legend" and Yanez boldly took his exclamation to the next level, naming names.  Former world flyweight title challenger, Raul Martinez, Ft. Worth's Hernandez brothers, Adam Ochoa (who has a win over Yanez's KO-N-1 stablemate, Sammy Sanchez) and Texas bantamweight title holder, Sergio Perales.  "And that's just my Texas hit list", Luis said.  The part-time poet even dedicated a rhyme to Perales, a former Texas State Golden Gloves champion and recent winner of the I.B.A. Continental bantamweight belt.  "You think it's your time, but I'll take your shine, that I.B.A. Continental title is mine!"  Strong words from a man that's accustomed to controversy, but Yanez has every intent of backing them up.

Fueling Luis'' pursuit for a better 2010 has been the success of sawed-off superstar, Manny Pacquiao, who once fought at 106 pounds like Yanez and is now ruling the entire boxing world.  Seeing a "lil guy" slay giants makes Luis expect more from himself.  We're expecting big things from you too, "L.L."
