COLLISION COURSE: YANEZ vs. CASIAS

In life, some things are inevitable; death, taxes, 100 degree Texas summer days and that top of the morning stroll to the bathroom.  In boxing, certain fighters seem almost destined to bump heads and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area has a shining example: Luis Yanez vs. Rafael Casias.

For starters, there just aren't that many opponents locally for these two pint-sized warriors with gargantuan hearts.  Yanez and Casias are each tailor-made to compete in the 112-118 pound range, but those are amongst the least populated weight classes in the entire sport.  At some point, the supply of little guys runs out and often they'll face one another two or three times in a career.  So when you're lucky enough to have a similar sized guy hovering around your preferred division, it behooves you to let it be known that you're more than willing to throw hands.

Yanez (4-0), known as the "Latin Legend" is a highly decorated amateur, having been a 2008 United States Olympian, gold medalist at the 2007 Pan Am Games and a repeat winner of the National Golden Gloves.  Despite these laurels, the unflappable Casias has made no secret of his desire to test himself against a fighter of Yanez's pedigree someday.

After three consecutive wins, Casias is hotter than fish grease, with his appeal and the demand for his boxing talents at an all-time high.  He's been showcased on the last two Black Gloves Promotions shows and proven to be a bona fide ticket seller and action-hero.  The pride of Colleyville's Fitness Factory wears his heart on his sleeves and would literally walk thru machine gun fire to attain victory.  When Rafael Casias fights, his bout is almost always the most fan friendly outing of the evening and as a result, Black Gloves is now in a bidding war of sorts, for Casias' services, with Paulie Ayala Promotions.

Knowing Casias would be on Black Gloves' July 17th "Rock the Box" show in Rockwall (facing the gritty Cristoval Larrazolo), Yanez showed up to the weigh-in, a day prior, looking to stir the pot a bit.  Predictably, it didn't take long before the two alpha males locked eyes on one another and they verbally engaged, after Casias stepped on the scale.

Here's footage of what went down:

Yanez has become infamous for livening up weigh-ins and Black Gloves' "Rock the Box" version was no exception.  After getting past Larrazolo in his featured bout on that card, Casias made sure to address what went down.  "If Luis Yanez thinks I'm ducking him, I want him to know that I will fight him at anytime!"

It seems predestined that Luis Yanez and Rafael Casias will share a boxing ring in the future.  The Metroplex eagerly awaits and anticipates.
