Hatley Wins in Arkansas

Recently, Oak Cliff boxing sensation, Charles "The Future" Hatley fought out of the comforts of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex for the first time as a professional.  He visited the well-known Shooter's circuit in Texarkana, Arkansas as the headliner against local favorite, John DeJean.

Once again, Hatley (ranked number one pound for pound by North Texas Boxing) elected to wear tuxedo styled ring attire and dipped, bobbed and gyrated his way to the ring.  The pro-DeJean crowd seemed more confused than enthused, perhaps having never seen a guy so upbeat, mere moments from a fight.  DeJean brought a record of 3-1, 2 KO's to the ring and the look of supreme confidence.  For what it's worth, Hatley didn't know anything about his foe (coming into the fight), nor did he care.  For him, it was just another day at the office.

Starting cautiously to feel DeJean out, Hatley was met with a right hand.  Predictably, that's when the 2008 United States Olympic alternate dispensed with the niceties and went into kill-mode.  A pay-back right hand hurt DeJean and Hatley stalked him, sporting the grin of a hungry shark about to attack.

Hatley unloaded, both upstairs and downstairs as DeJean steadily retreated.  Late in the very 1st round, Charlie fully opened up with winging rights, which left DeJean all but out on his feet.  A couple lefts were added in for good measure and left the crowd-favorite flat on his face, unconscious.  The medical staff tended to DeJean's needs for several minutes and he was eventually alright; thankfully.  Hatley upped his record to 8-0, 8 KO's, with 5 of them coming in the 1st round.

That same night, Larry "Slomoshun" Smith raised his ledger to 4-1, 3 KO's, disposing of Doyle Page (0-2) in the 1st round.  For 1 minute and 18 seconds, Smith abused the outclassed Page with body shots, then finished him with an overhand right.  Smith saluted Page as the ref administered the 10-count.
