Dallas’ Marroquin Wins, Ft. Worth’s Trevino Draws

I had heard good things about Roberto Marroquin (13-0, 10 KO’s) and when I saw him perform on the undercard of the Pacquiao / Clottey “Event” at Cowboys Stadium, I understood what everyone was talking about.

His latest victim / opponent was Samuel Sanchez (4-0-1), of Dallas, a former sparring partner. It didn’t take long for Marroquin to get to work. In the first round, Marroquin dropped Sanchez with a quick left hand, but Sanchez quickly got up and finished the round. In the second, Sanchez purposely head butted Marroquin and received a warning from the ref, then Marroquin moved in for the finish. After a few quick jabs Marroquin caught him with a hard right to the head, which wobbled Sanchez, then quickly followed it with an identical punch and Sanchez went down awkwardly, tried to get up and went down again. Awkwardly. The referee stepped in and the fight was over at 1:36 of the second round.

Per Top Rank, his promoter, this is supposed to be Marroquin’s last six round fight and he is expected to move up into the ranks. North Texas Boxing’s pound for pound fighter of 2009 did not disappoint the home crowd and we are looking forward to huge things for this young man.

Trevino v Hidalgo
In another of the non-televised fights on the undercard at the “Event” at the new Cowboys Stadium, lightweight Arturo Trevino (5-5-3, 2 KO’s) of Fort Worth, Texas took on Isaac Hidalgo (6-5-1, 1 KO) of Tucson, Arizona. Although Trevino was throwing good combinations and displaying great ring movement, his opponent followed suit and the four round match was a draw.
