King of the Cage Invades WinStar

WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma is well known for its high-class amenities and fantastic gaming. Saturday night was no different as they went all in with the King of The Cage: Total Destruction mixed martial arts event and the packed house of adoring fans cashed in on a great night of fights.

World-renowned referees, Big John McCarthy and Herb Dean, were on hand to supervise the action. Oklahoma native and rising star, Sarah Maloy, was also ringside to support current training partners and catch the night's action packed excitement.

The professional mixed martial arts card featured two world championship bouts. In a Lightweight Title fight, Tim "The Dirty Bird" Means (15-3) squared off against Tyrel Brown (8-3) in what turned out to be an extremely quick confrontation. Means did not lack confidence staring down his opponent through opening introductions and referee instructions. Brown began strong countering Means with powerful shots but Means landed a knee to the body and then head that sent Brown staggering to the cage. Means, sensing the knockout, threw another knee to the head to finish the fight at forty seconds of the first round and retain his Lightweight belt.

Dominic "I Hate You So Much" O'Grady (13-4) and Bill Albrecht (20-11) waged a five round war for the Welterweight crown that tested each fighters stand up and ground game. O'Grady was a former champion looking to get back on top of the division and had extra motivation, having lost his father recently. Each fighter landed tremendous combinations but neither staggered through five rounds. Albrecht nearly submitted an opponent that had never been defeated by submission. O'Grady spoke of the near miss alluding to the fact that he was real close to tapping. The fight went back and forth with O'Grady dominating on the ground in the final rounds to take the split decision victory dedicated to his father 48-47, 49-46, and 47-48 regaining the Welterweight title.

A powerful right hand, thirty-one seconds into the first round, helped Mike Maldonado (1-0) make short work of Treston Thomison (4-1). The crushing right spun around Thomison. He hit the floor but was able to gather himself and attempt an arm bar as Maldonado attacked. He was unable to hold the submission and suffered through multiple combinations to the head before Big John McCarthy had seen enough ending the fight.

In an action packed brawl, Terrell Thomas (4-4) and Cortez Coleman (7-3) had the crowd in an uproar. Coleman ran to the octagon with an intense scowl on his face as Thomas looked to be sizing up his prey. Coleman started strong landing numerous shots and knees to the body but was unable to land the knockout blow. Thomas was very crafty and landed numerous shots of his own while trying to survive the powerful onslaught of Coleman. The fighters started the second round with some dirty boxing causing damage to both fighters. Thomas found his range with a powerful uppercut that snapped Coleman's head back numerous times. Thomas took full advantage of an exhausted Coleman by getting his back and securing a rear naked choke at 4:07 of the second round to take the victory.

In the lone women's bout, Tulsa's Liz Carreiro (4-9) and Dallas' Anita Rodriguez (5-2) went the distance in their technically sound contest. Each fighter landed strong combinations and powerful leg kicks in the three round battle. Rodriguez began to wear down the talented Carreiro with big combinations to the head and body taking the unanimous decision victory. All three judges scored the fight 30-27 for the Dallas native.

In other action, Sidiah Parker (6-2) defeated Ryan McCurdy (6-2) by technical knockout at 2:27 of the first round. Chris White (4-2) dispatched of Tony Quintero (2-4) by arm bar thirty seconds into the first round of their contest. Terry Acker (4-0) destroyed Turrell Galloway (5-3) finishing the bout by rear naked choke at 4:20 of the second round leaving Galloway a bloody mess and Brad Nordquist (8-14) submitted Dave Roberts (7-4) by triangle choke at four minutes of the first round.

The King of the Cage promotion is scheduled to return to WinStar World Casino April 14.
